The Technician Electronic Systems is a soldier who inspects, diagnoses, repairs and maintains:

• Radios,
• Communications,
• Optical instruments,
• Night vision goggles,
• Navigational aids,
• Laser range finding equipment,
• Medical and dental equipment,
• Electro-optical / electro-hydraulic / electro-mechanical systems,
• Radar systems,
• Electronic vehicle control systems and
• Electronic surveillance and detection systems.

The Technician Electronic Systems trainee has a recruit training phase of 80 days at Kapooka Army Barracks, Wagga Wagga NSW. Following successful completion of recruits, Technician Electronic Systems Trainees commence 24 months (normally less for qualified entrants) Initial Employment Training (IET), conducted at the Army School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering (ASEME), located in Bandiana and Bonegilla, VIC. On successful completion of IET, Technician Electronic Systems commence 12 month on job experience (usually at Bandiana as well). Once a Technician Electronic Systems achieves competence through on-the-job experience and completion of competency elements, they are required to undertake maintenance activities under limited supervision. Posting locations for Technician Electronic Systems range from large Combat Service Support Battalions (CSSB) located in Brisbane, Darwin and Townsville to small technical support platoons and squadrons located throughout Australia.
